You are not the Church of the Future, You are the Church
On Oct 14 & 15, over 4,000 middle schoolers from Chicago and Joliet gathered at the UIC Pavilion for Holy Fire, the first event of its kind. This event was designed as a youth rally in partnership with NCYC, the National Catholic Youth Conference, an event held annually for high schoolers.
The days were filled with concerts by Catholic artists such as Ike Ndolo and Joe Melendrez, witness talks, Eucharistic adoration, and Mass. Several of the bishops, including Cardinal-elect Cupich, made an appearance to encourage and support the youth of our Church. Several seminarians were present as well to bolster the faith of these youth and invite them to consider a religious vocation. In addition to serving at adoration and Mass, hundreds of prayer cards were handed out by the men simply to encourage everybody to pray for vocations. One of the great opportunities at events like this is to plant the seed of contemplating a vocation - discovering where God may be calling each of us to know, love, and serve him better.
The theme was Holy Fire, allowing the Holy Spirit to truly ignite the faith in our lives and set our hearts on fire with love of Christ. We were reminded that the youth are called to love, and love as members of the Church today, nor simply when they are older. Take charge of your faith, and love it out with joy and enthusiasm.
It was a great inaugural celebration and everybody present could definitely feel the fire of the Holy Spirit moving in our lives!
