The New RAs for 2016-2017

With the new academic year approaching, we're excited to introduce the new Resident Advisers for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Adam Gonzalez | 3rd Floor RA

What are you looking forward to the most this school year?

Senior year brings with it a lot of excitement, but I think I am most looking forward to interacting with the new students and seeing all of us come together as a new community.

Favorite place on campus:

Tough choice on such a beautiful campus, but I'd have to say the Sacred Heart grotto by the lake. Great place to stop and pray for a bit.

RAs vs PMs. Nerf Wars. Who would win?

RAs. Duh. Next question.

In a push-up challenge, which priest would win?

I'm going to go with the youth of Fr. Mark. I think he's done a push-up more recently than the other priests.

What advice you give to new seminarians?

Put your relationship with Christ first and your personal formation as His disciple second. Giving yourself completely to Christ and to formation are essential parts of seminary. That being said, make sure to balance those things with fun; hanging out with the guys, playing video games when you have time, making friends at Loyola, going to the gym etc.

What is one thing you want to do for your hall/CAM?

I think it would be nice to do something as a CAM besides CAM night. Maybe have a movie night once or twice a semester (snacks provided by the RA) or get dinner together, just the 3rd floor guys. Communities within a community are healthy and beneficial for the community as a whole. Personally, I want to be present to the guys on my floor. My door is always open, even though it's actually closed most of the time because my music can get loud.

What are you looking forward to the most this school year?

Besides senior year and being back at Loyola, I’m most looking forward to returning to community living as we (hopefully!) will accompany each other on this journey of discipleship!

 Favorite place on campus:

Easy – the silent reading room on the IC’s third floor.  This place makes me feel like I could be a student at Oxford, alongside Waugh’s Charles Ryder and Sebastian Flyte!

RAs vs PMs. Nerf Wars. Who would win?

RAs. The PMs have nothing on the three seniors (except Joe’s height, but even still, no contest!)

In a push-up challenge, which priest would win?

Fr. Dan Flens – hands down. On second thought, Fr. Mark might give Fr. Dan a run for his money, but we’ll see what the year brings!

What advice you give to new seminarians?

Don’t expect or demand a flawless seminary journey, or seek to fulfill everyone’s expectations.  Instead, simply love Jesus and be yourself, because at the end of the day, nothing else really matters.

What is one thing you want to do for your hall/CAM?

For the fourth floor cam, I’m planning on hosting “Man Coffee”, a come-as-you-want, no-talking-required, good-quality-coffee bonanza at 5:40 AM.  After coffee, those interested can go to the Chapel to pray a Holy Hour before Morning Prayer and Holy Mass.  Hopefully “Man Coffee” can help foster growth in fraternity and love of the Lord!

What's your favorite Pokemon?

A dead one.

Timothy Schumaker | 2nd FLOOR RA

What are you looking forward to the most this school year?

I'm looking forward to getting back into the college life and routine, seeing my friends, and exploring Chicago more so than I have in the past.

 Favorite place on campus:

Halas (Recreation center)

RAs vs PMs. Nerf Wars. Who would win?

PM's would fight a very close match, but in the end, I would carry my fellow RA's to victory.

In a push-up challenge, which priest would win?

While I would never count Father Dan out, I'm going to go with youth and say Father Augustine.

What advice you give to new seminarians?

Make mistakes and learn from them. They help us know who we are, as well as who we are not, which is very important during college and seminary.

What is one thing you want to do for your hall/CAM?

Instill fear and respect for the RA......jk.....I want to bring a joyful persona which can hopefully build the floor into a community which helps each other throughout the year.

What's your favorite Pokemon?

How can you not say Pikachu!?
