Fostering Positivity in the Community
St. Joseph College Seminary isn't only about nurturing and guiding the individual's road to priesthood; it's dedicated to building a more positive community. Through various programs and unique experiences, our seminarians integrate with the community around them, gathering knowledge and strengthening relationships between themselves and all of God's people.
Those who attend St. Joseph College Seminary benefit from two experiences -- they are seminarians, but through our affiliation with Loyola University of Chicago, our seminarians are also able to become part of the culturally rich urban environment in Chicago. Taking part in both seminary and Loyola events, they receive a well-rounded, typical college experience as God guides them through their discernment of their vocation.
During the Summer Apostolate Program after the 2nd year of study, the seminarians go through an intensive ten week internship at a local parish to receive a more informed idea of being a parish priest and community leader.
Through the Pastoral Formation program, our seminarians participate in a variety of ministerial assignments, including: outreach programs to the hungry, pastoral care to the sick and suffering, catechesis to children in religious education programs, working with refugees and immigrants, and more. Each year students are assigned to a different ministry and evaluated under the direction of a supervisor.
Through charitable works and various activities throughout the wider community, St. Joseph College Seminary is dedicated to developing the discernment path to priesthood in the individual while teaching him how to also become a community leader.
