Seminarians are also required to take additional courses in Loyola University Chicago’s Departments of Philosophy and Theology at Loyola to fulfill the requirements of the Program of Priestly Formation, including foundation courses in the New and Old Testaments.

Courses at Loyola University Chicago

As students of Loyola University Chicago, seminarians complete the general “core” curriculum as well as the requirements for a philosophy major in the College of Arts and Sciences.

The “core” includes a total of 16 courses (48 credit hours) a student must take in order to earn a Bachelor’s degree at Loyola University Chicago. These courses are then complemented by the student’s major and electives. The “core” primarily focuses in the arts and sciences, which develop important college-level skills and integrate an understanding of 10 required areas of knowledge such as artistic, historical, literary, quantitative, scientific, societal and cultural, philosophical, ethical and theological.  For further information for the core and lists of courses which can be taken, visit www.luc.edu/core.
